Adrenal fatigue is caused by abnormal functioning of the suprarenal glands that sit on top of the kidneys. These glands are in charge of releasing a series of hormones, among which is cortisol, a hormone that is released to help the body respond to stress.
When an individual finds himself under stress, these glands focus on releasing only this hormone, halting production of other hormones the body needs. This is known as adrenal fatigue, and it affects our health and the general state of the body.
Adrenal fatigue, as we have already mentioned, is produced in the suprarenal glands, which are essential for good health. The problem is that these end up failing, which impedes them from functioning in a normal manner.
This poor functioning has many physical signs that translate into fatigue, muscle weakness, symptoms of depression, slowness when performing any action, hyperventilation, poor healing of wounds, lack of libido, increase in allergic reactions or increased intensity of existing allergies…
In order for the suprarenal glands to fail and for adrenal fatigue to appear, a series of factors must be present that must be kept in mind. The main thing to keep in mind is that a prolonged period of stress is the primary cause.
Stressful situations also include traumatic moments or periods in which there are high levels of worrying. After respiratory infections such as cold, flu and pneumonia, we might see episodes of adrenal fatigue.
